Chitrada College History

Chitrada College, Chitrada in the district of Mayurbhanj ( a tribal dominated area of Orissa state) was established on the 1st of July 1980 with a view to promote higher education for the people of Mayurbhanj especially for the tribals at the begining. It was started in the premises and buildings of Jawahar Vidyapitha, Chitrada and transfered to its own campus in 1993. At the outset, Intermediate class in Arts with 128 seats was opened in 1980 and got government concurrance and university affiliation from 1981, subsequently, as per the New Education Policy, IA classes were converted into +2 classes from 1984. Seats increased from 128 to 256 in +2 Arts in 1989. +3 Degree classes in Arts with 128 seats was opened from 1987. Hons. classes also opened from 1989. +2 Science classes with 64 seats was opened in 1991. Present +2 classes are affiliated to CHSE, Orissa and +3 classes are affiliated to the North Orissa University. The college has come into the grant in aid fold from 1986. It was being managed by a Governing Body as per the Management of Aided colleges Rule of the State Government.

The general pubic of Morada Block, Rasgovindpur Block, Baripada Block under the leadership of Sri Umesh Ch. Das, supported for the establishment of this college. Sri Das was right from the beginning till Sanjeev Chopra IAS Sub-Collector, Baripada takes over the charge. Since then Sub-Collector, Baripada are the ex-officio president of this college.
